Smartphones are all the rage nowadays, and they won’t let you down with all their functions and features. Off the top of my head, there comes a time my Iphone did give me an extremely pleasant experience. It was when I was up to ears in revising and reviewing for my finals, and I happened to receive a facetime call from my classmate, which was a great chance to let my hair down a bit. With the modern functions of the smartphone, it was possible for me to see my friend’s face while exchanging casual gossip. During our talk, the mobile phone allowed us to attach some funny and cute stickers like I can become a cat, a dog or a ghost by simply clicking on the icons provided by the app pre-installed on the phone. We did burst into profuse laughter every time we ourselves transformed into a different person with diverse facial expressions. Previously it was unimaginable that people could meet one another on the phone just exactly like in real life. I was thrilled because I really appreciated the many good things that my mobile phone brought me. Although the Iphone cost me an arm and a leg, it is really worth the price, it does wonders to me and I have to admit that it is the thing that I can't live without.
QUESTIONS FOR PART 3
When do you need mobile phone most?
From my personal experience, when people go to an unfamiliar place and can't navigate the way out of trouble, a mobile phone often comes into use. l recall vividly as if it were yesterday the time when I left my cell phone at home during my backpacking trip. Unfortunately I got lost and couldn’t get into contact with my family back home. What I’m trying to say is that your life can even be put in danger without a phone in your pocket.
What are the differences between young and old people who use mobile phones?
There is a world of differences in the ways two generations make use of their phones. As for elderly people, they would rather go for phones with simple designs and use it to communicate with their peers most of the times. By stark contrast, the youths are hooked on the latest models of smartphones with various functions besides communication like surfing the net, playing games. All this means that you often catch sight of some teenagers gluing their eyes on the smartphone screen reading some witty comments on Facebook or chatting with their buddies via messenger applications.
Do you prefer face-to-face conversations or conversations by phone?
I prefer face-to-face conversations because I think it’s more personal when I talk in this way. Nowadays, the telephone is getting more and more popular. Sometimes, people would spend hours on their phones but neglect the people who live with them. I think it’s not a good phenomenon. We should treasure face-to-face talking opportunities and spend more time with our family members.
Would you say that cell phones are important in today’s society?
Yeah, definitely. Now a lot of people will feel that they can’t live without cell phones. People use cell phones as the way of communication and entertainment. Many people give up wearing watches because their cell phones can tell them the time. I think it may not be good for people to be dependent on cell phones too much because a lot of our time is killed by them without us being conscious of the fact.
Do you think cell phones ever cause problems for people?
Yes, of course. Some children bring cell phones to school and it really distracts them from studies. Now I know a lot of schools have strict rules to forbid students to bring cell phones to school. We also know the radiation problems of cell phone. Although we don't know exactly how serious it might be, it still makes us feel uncomfortable if we’re on the phone for a long time.
What’s the disadvantage of communicating through the phone?
There're some disadvantages of talking on the phone. When we use the phone, we usually can’t see each other’s facial expressions, so we might have misunderstandings in phone conversations. Also, cell phones have radiation problems and it's not good for our health if we talk on the phone for a very long time. One more thing is that when we talk on the phone, we're not actually facing other people, so if there are other distractions, we might be distracted easily compared to face to face conversations.
What’re the advantages and disadvantages of the cell phone?
The cell phone is one of the biggest inventions in this modern world. Because of the cell phone, we can communicate with others when we don't have the opportunities to talk to them face to face. We can chat with friends and family members who live far away from us and when we have emergencies, we can always press the buttons to call for help. However, there’re also some disadvantages. As we all know, radiation problem of the cell phone is serious. Also, when we use cell phones, we literally don't have any privacy because people can find us no matter where we are.
