IELTS Speaking part Two & Three about describe a skill which is important but not learned in school or at work with Answer and Vocabulary Band Score 6.5-8

Describe a skill which is important but not learned in school or at work.

You should say:

What is the skill

How to learn it

Is it hard to learn it

And explain why it is important

Realizing the importance of getting the kids prepared for their future life, many parents usually teach them many skills during their childhood. Off the top of my head, I was fortunate to be educated to be independent at an early age. Of course, like others, my parents are constantly on the go so it means it would be better if I could know how to take a proper care of myself, I was told to handle everything in the house such as doing the laundry, sweeping the floor or do the cooking when my parents are away. At first, my parents acted as a role model and would show me how to carry out a task step by step so I had no difficulty in mastering it really.Speaking of its importance, during the time I studied at university, away from parental care and protection, I was able to do almost anything in the apartment. If I remember rightly, it was always spotlessly clean and I never had to eat out much, so it not only saved me lots of money but also time for other activities because I could finish the tasks extremely effectively.

QUESTIONS FOR PART 3

What age will make it difficult for a person to learn a skill?

From personal experience, when you finish university and step into society for work, it’s the most difficult time for a person as they loses the thirst for knowledge. What matters to them is how to secure a decent job and make a proper earning to support themselves and their family. Therefore, I would say that from 24 onward, people feel like settling down without any more learning, and from 40 onwards, they would stop thinking about acquiring anything.

What's the difference between children learning what they like and learning what they have to learn?

Well, it is like chalk and cheese. When you are engrossed in a certain thing, you would devote your time and efforts to it, and have no difficulty in mastering it at lightning speed. What I’m trying to say is when you are passionate about English, for instance, you will definitely go to speaking clubs, chat with foreigners and practice on a daily basis to hone your skills. Whereas, if you are forced to take a course in something, it’s just your responsibility and the outcome is usually terrible as you only lazy around and take the tests for the sake of passing them.

Did you learn anything during your childhood when you were playing?

From my personal experience, when l was knee-high to a grasshopper, my friends and I used to hang out a lot, and we often crossed streams, climbed trees, or went fishing. So you see, I happened to acquire many life skills such as catching fish and keeping balance, which helped me learn to ride a bike pretty fast.
