IELTS Speaking part Two & Three about describe a rule you agree or disagree withwith Answer and Vocabulary Band Score 6.5-8

Describe a rule you agree or disagree with

You should say

- what it was

- how others thought about this rule

- have you ever violated this rule

- and explain why you did not like this rule.

I’m a quite obedient student and make my best effort to conform to the rules and regulations of the school. However, a recently introduced rule just left me the creeps. It’s required that all students in my class need to focus on studies and say goodbye with dating. The rule was introduced by my form teacher as part of her effort to raise the class’s study productivity by maximizing the students’ focus on their academic study. I guess I have to say I don’t see myself in complete agreement. It’s true that as my classmates and I are at our last stage of high school and the need for wholehearted focus on our studies is never greater. If we get distracted, all our efforts will go down the drain. However, it seems a bit strict for all students, who are at impressionable and inquisitive age to abandon what should naturally be part and parcel of growing up.From my observation, some of my classmates simply just disregard our teacher’s words and get their own ways. Dating happens quite often, and unfortunately our teacher is kept in the dark about this. I think it’s time I informed the teacher of the ineffectiveness of the rule imposed on the students, and reassured her that the class won’t let her down. No one can deny that couples can help each other out with the assignments while maintaining their relationship.

QUESTION FOR PART 3

Are rules suitable for all students?

Of course not. Rules are blade to force individuals into adopting certain patterns of behaviors usually undesirable by the students. All I'm trying to say is that some students would definitely feel dissatisfied and outraged by the rule. As a consequence, they're willing to disobey the rule for the simple reason that it's considered applicable in their personal circumstance, or the rule may cause them certain troubles and inconveniences.

What rules are there in your school? / in your companies?

In my schools, students are required to wear uniform, and I guess this is quite universal in almost any school in the country. Besides this, students must attend classes on time, or otherwise they will be detained or not allowed to enter school. The last point to mention is that recently most schools, particularly universities, compel the students to wear their student card before coming to class for the fundamental reason that the school want to prevent strangers from infiltrating into the school to steal things. That’s all I can say now.

In companies:The staff are supposed to arrive on time to clock in and if they fail to do this, they can puffer from cuts in their salary. In the process of working, entertainment applications are forbidden as they effect work productivity. So. it’s natural that you can’t browse Facebook notifications or text message your friends with your smartphone as work comes first.

Why is it important to obey law?

As far as I'm concerned, law has a crucial role to play in maintaining social order and stability. The reason why I feel this way is that if there are penalties on wrongdoings, people will be less willing to commit crimes or offenses. This cannot only help them become law-abiding citizens, but they can also avoid causing harm to others. For example, a bill on litter dropping can make us more environmentally conscious because we’re afraid to get heavily fined and consequently put garbage in certain trash cans.

What can parents and teachers do to help children follow rules?

I believe there are a couple of ways that parents and educators can do to encourage a child to comply with the rules, presumably the most effective solution is for parents and teachers to set an exemplary role model. Consequently, the children will imitate the virtues displayed by their father, mother and teacher and feel stimulated to stick to the rules. In addition, if schools were to adopt a less strict punitive system and reward children with something for their good code of conduct, then I think many will be motivated to obey the rules willingly.

Should there is a law to limit the working hours?

This law is beneficial because, in this fast moving world of today, people have become workaholics. In order to satisfy their material desires, they are forgetting to draw a line between work and family. If working hours are fixed, then they have enough time for their family life and leisure. Secondly, overworking leads to stress and can lead to nervous breakdown in extreme eases. People also find time for their regular exercise if working hours are fixed.
