لغت های این قسمت را می توان برای همه ی رایتینگ ها به کار برد البته بیشتر برای نگارش پای چارت مورد استفاده قرار می گیرد. اگر بخواهید بگویید که یک درصدی از چه چیزی یا چیزهایی تشکیل شده است و یا چه چیزهایی سازنده ی بخشی از جدول ما می باشد می توانیم از این لغات بهره گیریم.

اگر بخواهیم بگوییم که مثلا یک گروه از چه چیزهایی متشکل شده است از کلمات زیر و گرامر زیر استفاده میکنیم. در اینجا کلمات قرمز به صورت passive و کلمات آبی باید به صورت active مورد استفاده قرار گیرند تا این معنی را بدهند.

برای اینکه بگویید چه چیزی یک گروه را می سازد از کلمات و گرامر زیر استفاده می کنیم. می بینید که همه به صورت active مورد استفاده قرار گرفته اند.

Ten people make up/ constitute/ comprise/ compose the group.

- The collection comprises 200 paintings.

- 200 paintings comprise the collection. (less frequent)               

- The United States comprises 50 states.

50 states constitute/ compose/ make up the United States.

- Afro-Americans account for 12% of the US population.

- A miniseries comprising five episodes (=a miniseries which comprises five episodes)

 

 

Account for/represent = to be a particular amount or part of something

In Japan, firms employing over 1000 people accounted for 50% of total employment.

This project alone represents half of the department's budget.

Women now represent 48% of the workforce.

 

Constitute =to be a particular part of something - use this especially to talk about scientific or official facts and figures

Children constitute four out of every ten poor people in the United States.

Nitrogen constitutes 78% of the earth's atmosphere.

 

Constitute = if a number of people or things together constitute something, they are the parts that together form that thing

Alaska is the largest of the fifty states that constitute the USA.

It is sometimes difficult to believe that the different groups living within our borders constitute a single society.

Because journalists don't think the congressman constitutes much of a threat, they don't write or broadcast stories about him.

 

Make up/form =to be part of a particular group of people or to be the thing on which something else is based

The six states that make up New England are Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Comprise =to consist of the things mentioned. Comprise can also be used to talk about the people or things which form something

The event comprises a champagne reception, two-course lunch, and a fashion show.

Men still comprise the majority of people who have the disease.

 

Make up (also constitute formal) to be the things or people that form something

Women constitute a significant part of the workforce.

Toys make up about 10% of the company’s sales.

 

Be composed of something (also consist) = to be formed from a number of substances, parts, or people

Water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen.

The legal system is composed of people, and people make mistakes.

NOTICE: Do not say that something ‘is composed by’ or ‘is composed with’ things or people. Say that it is composed of things or people.
